“Surely, not me,” you say? But are you sure? Many Christians undermine what they derisively call the “Old” Testament, but God’s Word is never old. It is bursting with newness as the Holy Spirit opens it to our understanding. And God never calls the Hebrew part of the Bible, composing nearly three-fourths of God’s Book, old. Men added that. When only the Hebrew Scriptures existed, Jesus said we were to live by every word of God (Mat. 4:4). The New Testament gives an incomplete picture of who Jesus is. If that’s all you read, you haven’t got a clue about who the real Jesus is. How can you fully know and love Jesus if you don’t know who He is? Surprise! We have a supersized society. Why are Americans so obese? Why are we stuffing ourselves? Why are our Western societies the most overfed and undernourished in the world? Many reasons exist. However, one of them is that our peoples are plagued by hidden fears, often ignorant, irrational, and illogical fears. We stuff ourselves before our TVs or at our favorite fast food place, oversizing our orders and ourselves because we are compensating for fears deep down inside us. Holiday feasts are not the only time we overdo it at the table. It’s time we face our fears and turn them over to Jesus. His perfect love casts out all fear, on condition we turn them over to Him (1 John 4:18). Are you Overeating to Hide Fears?

Halloween celebrates death and hell. An eight-year-old boy in New Hampshire, whose grandmother called Pastor Gerald Budzinski, “raised hell” when he jumped in his granddad’s casket and said, “Rise and be healed in Jesus’ name!” The corpse rose with a new heart to replace the one the coroner had removed. He and his revived granddad had to leave the state they were so persecuted by the church that hosted the funeral service. Why celebrate death and attack life? And why celebrate a feast that glorifies death and hell? Why do some call this feast “Jesus Ween” and try to dedicate it to Jesus?
